Double Podium for Toth-Jones at Rockingham

Fantastic weekend for Alex at Rockingham as he took his maiden podium in Ginetta GT5 Challenge – Race 1 & repeated it again in Race 2.

Despite losing time to traffic on his best lap in qualifying, Alex qualified fifth on the grid for the opening race in challenging wet conditions.
The wet weather continued into the opening race, but a storming start from Alex saw him jump up to second place when the lights went out.
Breaking away from the chasing pack alongside leader James Kellett, Alex would keep his rival honest throughout before taking the flag in second place for his first podium finish.

Race two in dry conditions on Sunday saw Alex starting on the front row of the grid, he jumped into the lead off the line before Kellett was able to find a way back through. Alex put the leader under ever increasing pressure but yellow flags at the Deene Hairpin – one of the best overtaking opportunities on the circuit – meant he was unable to make a move for the lead. As a result, he once again settled for second place podium finish.
Race three saw Alex jump up to third place from seventh on the reverse grid, but his hopes of a third podium ended by some aggressive driving from his rivals that ultimately resulted in him slipping down to seventh with a damaged car.

Alex said:
“What a weekend! The car has been awesome and to be honest, I was a bit disappointed when we qualified in P5 as without traffic we could have been on the front row of the grid. I made a great start and to run nose-to-tail with Kellett throughout was mega. It was brilliant to get my first podium and even more special when it was at the home circuit for the team.
“Race 2 was great to get into the lead at the start but then I made a small mistake and dropped back to second again. I really think I could have had the win without the yellow flags as I was so much quicker through that part of the circuit, but another podium is good.
“After another mega start in race three, there was a lot of over aggressive driving and defending which meant I got hit a number of times but we picked up more good points in seventh. To jump up to fourth in the standings is great and I’m delighted to have put on a good show in front of my sponsors Tailored Resourcing & Accountancy , Lodestone & Proceed who joined us as VIP guests for the weekend.

It was a mega feeling to stand on the podium and one I could get used to! Thanks again to the team, sponsors and my parents for their support – Bring on Thruxton!”
