Richardson Racing can today confirm that it has re-signed Alex Toth-Jones for the 2017 Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge season.
The Bradford-based racer joined the team mid-way through last season for his maiden assault on the series, taking a best finish of fourth during the final meeting of the year at Donington Park.
Having shown on-track improvement throughout his campaign with the team, Alex will now seek to make a bid for the championship crown in his first full year in the British GT-supporting onemake series.
A full pre-season testing programme has already been scheduled, ensuring that Alex is fully up to speed ready for the season opener at Oulton Park in April.
“I’m really pleased to be able to confirm a deal to continue with Richardson Racing for 2017,” he said. “Obviously the deal last year came together quite late which meant we weren’t able to compete from the opening rounds of the season, so it’s great that we’ve been able to get everything sorted nice and early so we can carry out some proper testing ahead of round one.
“Having learned the ropes last year, I really want to start pushing for regular podium finishes this season and I see no reason why we can’t be fighting for victories to launch a bid for the championship title. The grid is already shaping up to be strong once again, and I’m really excited about the year ahead. Hopefully it’ll be a good one for myself, the team and my sponsors.”
Team boss Gwyn Richardson said he was pleased to welcome Alex back to the team as the first confirmed driver for what looks set to be a busy 2017 for the Corby-based team, with talks ongoing regarding drives available in both the Ginetta Junior Championship and British F4; both of which run alongside the British Touring Car Championship.
“We’re delighted to welcome Alex back to the team again for 2017,” he said. “We struck up a good relationship last year and I think that was reflected in the progress he made on track.
Considering he went into the season without any testing and was really up against it, he did a really good job and showed he could run well inside the top ten.
“With the experience he now has, and the testing programme in place, we’re confident that he’ll be challenging towards the sharp end of the grid and will establish himself amongst the championship contenders.”
